I add 2026 because we went to this same area almost exactly a year ago. I had intended to write up that trip before this trip, but I didn't get it done because... waves vaguely at the world.

Anywho...we decided to come again this year because there were a couple of things we wanted to do that we didn't manage to do because one of the places was closed and the other...is a longer story. Basically we wanted to go to an Arboretum in the Sandusky area but it was actually in the Toledo area so we were unable to find it and ended up at another arboretum. It was all very confusing. So plans are to revisit both those places plus some other places as we feel moved to do so.

However, I was greeted this morning with, "The executive committee has determined that we won't do anything big today." I don't know what that means, or who the executive committee is, but I'm going with the flow.

So let's start out with the place we're staying. It's gorgeous. It's huge. It's right on the lakeshore. We can't figure out how to turn on the air conditioning. (Comment from a traveling companion: It's like a tomb in here. Me: There are no zombies. There are no intelligent snakes. There are no hand clams. We are so far ahead of the game.)(Did anyone here understand that joke? No. But it was totally worth it.)

Here are some pictures:

A view of a misty, overcast Lake Erie from behind our Airbnb

This is basically the view from the wraparound porch.

A view of Lake Erie from the wraparound porch, showing the bank of windows and a few chairs outside where you can sit and watch the lake do lake things.

The wraparound porch.

A view of a large tree partially obscuring the view of Lake Erie in the morning.

The view out my bedroom window. It's too high up to really get a good panorama, but it's still a nice view. I had to pick the room with the twin beds to get this window, but so far I think it's a reasonable compromise.

a twin bed in a sort of attic-looking room. There's a wicker headboard, a dark coverlet, and a gray plaid blanket with a towel and washcloth rolled up on top. A square picture of sailboats hangs on the wall above.

My li'l bed, unless I decide to move across the hall to the vacant bedroom with a full-size.

A view of Lake Erie in the evening. It is misty and overcast.

A closer view, from outside the house.

Inside the house:

An extremely large shower stall with a bench setup in the back and tiles that look like woodgrain.

The showers are big enough to sleep in.

A bathroom sink. The sink itself is decorated in a mosaic pattern. There is a large mirror, and a metal decorative hanging of cavorting cranes (swans? idk some birds with long necks).

A funky sink!

A bathroom sink with a separate basin thingie.

Another funky sink!

It has one of those back-to-back fireplace setups.

A stone fireplace with a sign on it that says "Welcome to the Lake House." There's a framed mirror above it and candles and other tchotchkes on the mantel.

Another stone fireplace with a framed mirror above it. This one has a little chest of some sort in the place where you would build the fire.

A large dining room with a table that seats 10. The kitchen island is to the right, and there's a large window looking out on the driveway/next door neighbors.

Ginormous dining room.

A ginormous kitchen.

The kitchen is also ginormous, with two sinks.

A sitting area with a love seat. A door into the downstairs bedroom is visible to the left.

One of the sitting areas and the door to the downstairs bedroom. This couch faces one of the fireplaces.

The upstairs: there are two parallel hallways, each with a bathroom and two bedrooms. The bedrooms at the ends of the hallways are larger, with king-sized beds, and the other two are smaller.

Basically, the place is huge, with fabulous views, and I think we finally figured out the AC, at least for the downstairs.

I don't know what we plan to do today, but apparently it won't be "anything big."
